A Cleveland Police detective has been sacked without notice following his criminal conviction for assault, the force with no public confidence has now confirmed.
Detective Constable Philip Lamb was formally dismissed today (Friday, 7th November 2025) after an accelerated misconduct hearing was held. His name will also be submitted for inclusion on the national police barred list, preventing him from ever serving as a police officer again.
The dismissal follows a domestic incident back in 2023 which led to Lamb’s suspension from duty. He was then later convicted of assault on the 14th September 2025 at Teesside Court..
Superintendent Gez Wraith, of Cleveland Police’s Directorate of Standards & Ethics, said:
“Following a domestic-related incident in 2023, Philip Lamb was suspended from duty and later convicted of assault on 14th September 2025".
"Today, following an accelerated misconduct hearing, Philip Lamb has been dismissed without notice from Cleveland Police. He will no longer be able to join any police force in the country. His behaviour fell severely short of the standard that is expected of police officers and police staff. Any unacceptable behaviour of this kind will not be tolerated and robust action will be taken, as has been evidenced today. Cleveland Police uphold the highest standards and when those standards fall below what is expected, we will ensure that matters are dealt with in a fair, but robust manner. We will continue to do all we can to protect our communities.”
Lamb’s dismissal is the latest in a series of misconduct cases to hit Cleveland Police, which continues to face scrutiny over the behaviour and integrity of some of its officers.
Cleveland Police remains one of the most heavily criticised institutions in the country, having been plagued by scandals, internal investigations, Allegations of Brutality & Murder as well as repeated failures to meet even the most basic standards of public confidence and accountability.
The force’s leadership has repeatedly claimed to be “raising standards” — yet the regular occurrence of misconduct hearings and criminal convictions among serving and former officers continues to be some of the highest in the country.
As of now, the force has not disclosed the cost to the local tax payer for Lambs suspension & whether this was on full pay since he was taken off duty back in 2023.
This latest case serves as yet another reminder of the ongoing cultural and disciplinary issues within Cleveland Police — a force that has faced years of controversy, misconduct scandals, and public mistrust.
