Dangerous Driving Conviction Leads to Misconduct Hearing for Cleveland Police Officer
5th March 2026
A Cleveland Police officer is set to face a gross misconduct hearing after being convicted of dangerous driving in an incident which left a colleague injured and several police vehicles damaged.
PC 2886 Jefferson will appear before a misconduct panel over two days on March 10 and 11, with proceedings beginning at 10am at Scotswood House in Thornaby.
The hearing relates to an incident which was said to have took place on April 18, 2023, when the officer is alleged to have driven a police vehicle on a public road in a dangerous manner.
The allegations state the manner of driving then caused injury to a fellow policing colleague, resulted in damage to police vehicles, and placed others at risk of injury.
The case has already been dealt with in the criminal courts, where in January 2025, PC Jefferson was convicted of dangerous driving, contrary to Section 2A of the Road Traffic Act 1988, in relation to the incident.
The misconduct hearing will now determine whether the officer’s actions breached the police standards of professional behaviour, specifically relating to discreditable conduct and duties and responsibilities. Police officials say the allegations have been assessed as gross misconduct, where, if proven — the most serious category under police disciplinary procedures — means the officer could face immediate dismissal from the force.
The panel will hear the evidence over the two-day hearing before reaching a decision on whether the misconduct allegations are proven and what disciplinary action, if any, should follow.
