Hartlepool Property Issued Closure Order Following Anti-Social Behaviour Concerns

12th May 2026

A Property in Hartlepool has been closed by magistrates after concerns were raised over alleged criminal and anti-social behaviour linked to the address.

The Closure Order for 12 Elliott Street Hartlepool was issued this week after magistrates agreed that legal action was necessary to prevent further disruption to nearby residents and to the wider community.

Teesside Magistrates’ Court heard the tenant of the property, which is owned by a Private Landlord, "had been allowing criminal and anti-social behaviour to occur at the property for months, causing significant distress and disruption to the local community".

Closure Orders are usually sought where a property is alleged to have been associated with persistent nuisance, disorder, crime, or behaviour causing serious distress to the local community. In similar cases, Hartlepool’s Community Safety Team has worked alongside Cleveland Police and housing partners to bring applications before Teesside Magistrates’ Court, with the action forming part of wider efforts to tackle criminal and anti-social behaviour across the town with a number of closure orders being granted by the courts most of them confined to Hartlepool's Town Centre areas. .

The order means the occupants are now legally prohibited from entering the property for a minimum of Three Months while the Closure Order remains in force, except where specifically permitted. Breaching a Closure Order can carry serious consequences, with a maximum penalty of six months’ imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine.

Residents who believe a Closure Order is being breached are advised to contact Cleveland Police on 101, or 999 in an emergency. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
