Police Patrols Increased After Wildlife Cruelty Incident In Rossmere Park, Hartlepool
20th May 2026
Residents, volunteers and community representatives have come together in Rossmere Park Hartlpeool following a disturbing incident involving reports of cruelty towards wildlife.
The incident, which was reportedly witnessed by members of the public, has caused concern among local residents, with many describing it as deeply distressing and upsetting for the wider community.

Following reports from residents, council officers and Cleveland Police Community Support Officers were contacted to ensure action was taken quickly. A community patrol has since taken place through Rossmere Park, bringing together residents, volunteers, PCSOs, safeguarding representatives and Hartlepool Sport.
The patrol focused on speaking directly with young people about respecting wildlife, looking after public spaces and understanding the impact of anti-social behaviour on the wider community. Police have confirmed that additional patrols will now take place where possible, while safeguarding discussions are also said to be ongoing. Community patrols are expected to continue in the area.
However, those involved have stressed that enforcement alone will not solve the issue, with concerns raised about the lack of structured activities and positive opportunities available for young people locally. Residents who reported the incident have been praised, alongside officers, volunteers, the Rossmere Park Café team and Hartlepool Sport for their quick response and continued support.
Anyone who would like to get involved in future community patrols is being encouraged to visit Rossmere Park Café and express their interest, with local residents being urged to report anti-social behaviour in the park to Cleveland Police, or to make the Rossmere Park Café team aware where appropriate.
