Epstein Emails Spark Police Investigation Over Mandelson “No 10” Leak Claims in a Move Which Could Lead to the Former Labour MP for Hartlepool being Jailed if Found Guilty....

Peter Mandelson is facing intensifying political and police pressure after a fresh tranche of documents released in the United States appeared to show sensitive UK government information being shared with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, including messages that refer to a €500 billion Eurozone rescue package and internal Westminster manoeuvring in the final days of the 2010 general election aftermath.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed its now reviewing reports relating to alleged “misconduct in a public office”, while senior figures have demanded a formal Government inquiry into how confidential material may have left government.

The controversy reportedly centres on a cache of emails attributed to one of Epstein’s email accounts which includes exchanges involving Mandelson, who at the time was serving at the heart of 10 Downing Street as a senior Cabinet figure in the Labour government led by Gordon Brown. In screenshots of the correspondence seen by The Teesside & Durham Post Epstein is shown emailing Mandelson with the line that his “sources” were pointing to a “500 b euro bailout” being “almost complete”. In the same thread, a reply states it would be “announced tonight”, followed by a short message saying: “Just leaving No10…will call.” Sky News, reporting on the same document release, said the exchange “appears to show” Mandelson providing advance notice connected to the 2010 Eurozone rescue facility.

A separate email chain included in the material provided to this site contains language suggesting access to the private rhythms of government. One message refers to an “underground walk from no10 to the Ministry of Defence”, describing a late-night discussion involving Brown and “Libs”, an apparent reference to the Liberal Democrats during the coalition negotiations period. The same thread includes the line: “Finally got him to go today…”, to which Epstein replies: “i have faith, the value of some chapters in your book should now increase.” Multiple outlets have linked that phrase to the political crisis that ended with Brown leaving office, describing the email as an example of Mandelson communicating inside information to Epstein at a moment of national significance.

The political fallout has reportedly been immediate. Brown has publicly asked the Cabinet Secretary, Chris Wormald, to establish how any such information could have been disclosed and to report back with any findings, after earlier attempts to locate departmental records reportedly came up empty.  In parallel, the now Labour Leader Keir Starmer has said Mandelson should not remain in the House of Lords, as calls mount for sanctions that Parliament’s current rules may struggle to deliver.

The police aspect is, for now, reportedly at the assessment stage rather than a full criminal investigation. The Metropolitan Police has said it's reviewing the reports it has received in light of the newly public material, a step that can lead to no further action, further inquiries, or a formal investigation depending on what the evidence shows and whether the legal threshold is met & regardless of the passage of time.

Even if an email contains a market-sensitive claim, the critical questions for any inquiry are likely to be whether the information was genuinely confidential at the time, whether it came from within government rather than outside sources, whether it was communicated by a public office-holder in breach of duty, and whether there is proof of intent or recklessness.

Critics of Mandelson say he's witnessing the collapse of his political career before his very eyes & no amount of luck or spin will stop his downward spiral.

For readers trying to understand the wider significance, the emerging picture is of a convicted and well-connected financier apparently fishing for — and at times even receiving — insight into the UK state’s internal decisions during a period of intense political & financial turmoil. If the emails are authenticated and the inferences drawn by the revelations sustained, the questions will likely not stop at Mandelson’s conduct alone; they will reach deep into Whitehall’s information discipline, the culture around access, influence & political favours, and could end in a criminal prosecution as the Prince of Darkness gets dragged into the place he hates the most.....
