A Former Cleveland Police officer has appeared at Durham Crown Court charged with eleven counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child and one count of perverting the course of justice.
Nathan Henderson reportedly entered guilty pleas to all charges read out to him when he appeared before Durham Crown Court and has been remanded in custody to be sentenced later in the year.
A statement from Cleveland Police read : On Friday 15th August, Nathan Henderson was dismissed from Cleveland Police and he is no longer a serving officer.
Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Dave Sutherland added: “Firstly, I’d like to thank the victim in this case for their courage in coming forward and reporting these offences to us.
“Offences of this nature when committed by a member of the public are abhorrent, however, when they have been committed by a police officer it is incredibly shocking and appalling and I want to make it clear that these criminal acts will not be tolerated at Cleveland Police, nor in the police service as a whole. This is not what we, as police officers, stand for.
“On Friday 15th August we took action to remove Nathan Henderson from the force and he is no longer a serving officer, nor will he be able to be employed by any other police force.”
Henderson is now one of just a long list of disgraced officers previously working for Cleveland Police who have been sacked from their roles in the space of just a year, with many fearing the force of no public confidence needs intervention from HM Inspectorate of Constabularies & again put back under whats known as "special measures"....
