Former Durham Police Acting Sergeant Faces Gross Misconduct Hearing...

Former Durham Officer Accused of Inappropriate and Sexualised Behaviour Towards Colleagues
6th October 2026
A former Durham Constabulary officer is set to face a five-day misconduct hearing over allegations of inappropriate and sexualised behaviour towards two fellow officers while serving as an Acting Sergeant.
According to a hearing notice, the former officer is alleged to have committed a number of inappropriate and sexualised words or acts towards two officers, referred to as Officer A and Officer B, between March and September 2023.
The alleged behaviour is said to have taken place while the former officer was on duty and serving in the capacity of Acting Sergeant.
Allegations assessed as gross misconduct..
The allegations are said to concern potential breaches of two Standards of Professional Behaviour governing police officers — Authority, Respect and Courtesy, and Discreditable Conduct.
The Discreditable Conduct standard requires officers to behave in a way which does not bring discredit upon the police service or undermine public confidence in policing.
The allegations against the former officer have been assessed as potentially amounting to gross misconduct.
Durham Constabulary’s notice states that, had the officer still been serving and the allegations subsequently been proven, the conduct could have resulted in dismissal.
The hearing is particularly significant because the alleged conduct is said to have occurred while the former officer was acting in a supervisory role as an Acting Sergeant, with the proceedings expected to examine whether the former officer’s conduct breached the professional standards expected of police officers.
The misconduct hearing is due to begin at 10am on Monday, October 12th, 2026, at The Glow Centre in Newton Aycliffe and is expected to last for five days.
