Brickwork Services Ltd collapsed into insolvency after one of its creditors filled the business into Bankruptcy claiming to be owed over £1.2 Million Pounds...

A Hartlepool business, has been plunged into liquidation, reportedly leaving behind a trail of nearly £2 million worth of unpaid debts.

Brickwork Services Ltd, formally of Park View Industrial Estate, was forced into liquidation by an application to the High Court from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) after amassing debts totalling approximately £1.921 million. Of this, its claimed over £1.2 million was owed directly to HMRC — a burden now set to be shouldered by the UK taxpayer.

Among the 23 creditors said to be affected by the company’s collapse are thirteen employees who are still said to be owed redundancy payments and arrears in holiday pay. This substantial debt has raised questions about the government’s oversight of company finances, with many calling for stronger regulatory powers for Companies House, with critics arguing that existing safeguards are insufficient to prevent businesses from piling up unsustainable debts, only for taxpayers to pick up the bill when these companies fail.

Its also reported that a year before the company’s collapse, creditors had already begun expressing frustration over delayed payments, hinting at the financial instability that would ultimately lead to its downfall. The lack of accountability for directors whose companies leave such significant debts has fuelled calls for tougher regulations, including the power to ban directors from company registration permanently in cases where irresponsible financial management impacts taxpayers.
