A local business has applied to Hartlepool Borough Council seeking a change to its hazardous substances use licence, however sources have told HBC Exposed its 'uncertain' as to whether there will be any public objections to the proposals. .
Natara Global Ltd, based on The Tees Works Road, just on the outskirts of Hartlepool, reportedly submitted an application to Hartlepool Borough Council earlier this month, where its claimed the firms seeking permission to adjust the inventory of its hazardous substances used on-site. However, it remains uncertain whether the proposals will face any opposition from the local community.
Locals have previously objected to plans by the firm before over "bad smells"
Local residents are said to have previously raised concerns about the “pungent smell” emitted from the premises. Its claimed by a source that on earlier applications to the council, residents claimed the company had done little to address these issues, with some nearby locals claiming that at certain times of the day (or in hot weather), the odour was so 'overpowering' they couldn't open their windows or doors.
At the time of publishing, HBC Exposed hasn't been able to confirm the specific substances the business is seeking to store or use under the revised licence proposals. However, it's anticipated that this application could potentially attract similar objections to those raised in the past, where its claimed residents have often expressed 'frustration' over the cumulative impact of odours from nearby facilities, including the landfill site, as well as other factories, describing it as a battle to decide which is the most unbearable.
In 2021, under its previous business name, the company submitted a part-retrospective application to Hartlepool Borough Council for the construction of an amenity building and an odour control module. This was an apparent attempt to address ongoing complaints from locals about the unpleasant smells supposedly being emitted from the factory. .
When the council reviewed the plans in 2022, objections from a number of locals were recorded. Despite this, the application was approved with conditions attached. Sources suggest that the company’s latest request could follow a similar path, facing scrutiny and push-back from locals but inevitably gaining approval with conditions.
Its expected that Hartlepool Borough Council will make a decision on the plans currently listed under planning application H/2024/0291 sometime in February 2025
