Cleveland Police and housing officials have been cracking down on illegal subletting and drug-related crime in Hartlepool..
As part of Operation Artemis, Cleveland Polices operation to tackle serious and organised crime officers arrested a man linked to serious offences in the towns Byron Street earlier this week. The individual, who'd reportedly been residing in a Thirteen Housing Group property on Innes Road, was subsequently recalled to prison.
During the operation, Police seized a quantity of Class C and suspected Class A drugs, along with drug paraphernalia, raising concerns over the property's misuse and its impact on the surrounding community.
Following the arrest, PCSO Steven Widdowfield and a housing officer from Thirteen were then said to have conducted a visit to a property located at Innes Road, Owton Manor. The investigation revealed that the arrested man had been illegally subletting the residence to a couple without the housing organisation’s knowledge or consent.
The premises reportedly had been a focal point of numerous antisocial behaviour complaints, with residents reporting persistent disturbances linked to drug use and disorderly conduct. The illegal occupants were promptly removed from the property, and the housing organisation taking the immediate steps to secure it, preventing its further misuse.
Operation Artemis continues to target offenders who exploit the system, ensuring that housing is used for its intended purpose and that communities feel safe in their own neighbourhoods, with locals being encouraged to report any suspected illegal subletting or antisocial behaviour to both the police and housing authorities to help maintain security and stability in the community.
