Council Run Leisure Services to Get More Expensive From April 1 as new price increases set to be announced.
26th March 2026
Residents using leisure facilities managed by Hartlepool Borough Council are set to face higher costs from next month, after the councils leisure services provider 'Active Hartlepool' confirmed it will increase prices across a range of its services.
The organisation, which operates gyms, swimming pools and fitness programmes across the town, said the changes will come into effect from April 1, claiming the price increases are needed to maintain “high-quality services” and ensure long-term sustainability of the services.
In a statement issued to customers today, Active Hartlepool said the decision had been made after “careful consideration” and insisted the increases reflect the value of the services on offer.
However, the announcement's likely to raise concerns among residents already feeling the pressure of rising living costs, with leisure services often among the first expenses households are forced to reconsider.
Active Hartlepool said the pricing adjustments are aimed at protecting the future of its services while continuing to promote healthier lifestyles across the community.
On Social Media, Hartlepool Borough Council stated:
“To maintain the sustainability of our services and offer the highest experience for our customers, we will be adjusting our pricing structure across our services.”
While full details of the increases have not yet been released, customers have been told updated pricing will be published on the organisation’s website from April 1.
The move comes at a time when many Hartlepool residents are already grappling with increasing costs for energy, food and housing with any increases in leisure pricing likely to disproportionately impact families, pensioners and low-income users who rely on affordable access to gyms and swimming facilities for both physical and mental wellbeing.
Customers Urged to Review Memberships
Active Hartlepool has reportedly encouraging customers to speak with staff about their memberships or usage, suggesting there may be ways to maximise value under the new pricing structure.
The statement added that team members will be available to answer questions and help users explore their options, particularly those on pay-as-you-go plans.
