A former industrial landmark in Hartlepool could be on the brink of transformation as its claimed a local steel production company is looking to expand its operations, creating 15 jobs in the process.
Middlesbrough based firm Steel Benders Limited, a leading name in steel bending, profiling, and laser cutting, has unveiled its plans for an ambitious new commercial development on their site at Brenda Road, formally the home of the Clydesdale Forge. The plans set out that the proposals put before the local council arent just another run of the mill business expansion; but a significant step forward for local industry, and economic growth.

The proposed development looks to breathe new life into a long-dormant industrial site on the southwestern end of Brenda Road located just a short distance away from Tofts Farm Industrial Estate. Once a bustling hub of activity when it operated formally as the Clydesdale Forge which closed in 2015 leading to over 100 redundancies, the site has seen better days, with most of the original factory buildings demolished & cleared.
Steel Benders' plan proposes to create a purpose-built facility designed to meet the demands of their growing business whilst staying true to the company’s Northeast roots.
The firm looking to get permission for the new plans for the site in Brenda Road claim they've outgrown their current site in Middlesbrough, which, while functional, lacks the capacity for the company’s orderbooks. The Brenda Road site reportedly offers the perfect opportunity to house their state-of-the-art equipment, including unique machines that will expand the company’s service offerings, ensuring greater operational efficiency but also positioning Hartlepool as a hub for cutting-edge manufacturing.
Its claimed the potential investment in Brenda Road (subject to planning approval by Hartlepool Borough Council) goes beyond just buildings and machines; it’s an investment in the local community, with the firms expansion reportedly set to create 15 new jobs, adding to the 27-strong workforce already employed by the factory .
The proposed facilities are said to incorporate sustainable construction techniques alongside an energy-efficient design with solar panels on the production building’s south-facing roofs, insulated cladding to reduce energy loss, LED lighting with occupancy sensors to minimise energy consumption & A Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) to manage water responsibly.
For residents and local businesses, the development signals hope and progress in an area thats been decimated by job losses over the last 15 years. Brenda Road’s regeneration underlines Hartlepool’s potential as a destination for enterprise, with those in support of the development telling Teesside today reporters that It’s a reminder that, even in challenging times, Hartlepool has the resilience and resources to attract forward-thinking companies that deliver real benefits.
Hartlepool Borough Councils reportedly set to make a decision on the plans early next year....
