A steel production companies plans for expansion have been given a major boost, after council planning officials this week granted approval for the firm to begin its expansion operations, bringing with it 15 new jobs.

Middlesbrough based firm Steel Benders Limited, who specialise in steel bending, profiling, and laser cutting, unveiled plans back which Durham & Teesside Today reported on back in November 2024 for an ambitious new commercial development on their new site at Brenda Road, formally the home of The Clydesdale Forge. The proposals put before the local council last year were said to be not just another run of the mill business expansion; but a significant step forward for local industry, and economic growth.

The now approved development is set to breathe new life into a long-dormant industrial site on the southwestern side of Brenda Road located just a short distance away from Tofts Farm Industrial Estate & another nearby steel production factory. Once a bustling hub of activity when it operated formally as the Clydesdale Forge which closed back in 2015, according to the planning report, the site has "seen better days", with most of the original factory buildings demolished & cleared for future commercial re-development...

Steel Benders' plans are to create a purpose-built facility designed to meet the demands of their growing business whilst staying true to the company’s Northeast roots, where in the planning statement submitted to Hartlepool Borough Council, its said that the firm has outgrown their current site in Dockside Rd Middlesbrough, which, whilst functional, now lacks the capacity for the company’s orderbooks, with the Brenda Road site offering the perfect opportunity to house their new state-of-the-art equipment, including unique machines that will expand the company’s service offerings, ensuring greater operational efficiency but also positioning Hartlepool as a hub for cutting-edge manufacturing.
Its said that the approval of the plans now mean the business can focus on it’s investment in the local community, with the firms expansion set to create 15 new jobs, adding to its 27-strong workforce already employed by the factory & is expected to be a major boost to the local economy.
