Police are continuing their investigations following a serious fire at a property on Sheriff Street in Hartlepool on Monday evening (24th June), where it's alleged an accelerant was used, causing considerable damage to the property.
Cleveland Police were called to the scene yesterday evening after reports of a blaze at the property, which residents claim had been left insecure in the days leading up to the incident. Witnesses have told Durham & Teesside Today that the fire was deliberate, with early reports suggesting that an unknown substance may have been used to ignite or intensify the fire.
The property, now cordoned off and under police guard, has reportedly now become the centre of an arson investigation. With local residents expressing concerns about ongoing anti-social behaviour in the area and questioned whether the property had been properly secured prior to the incident.
Its claimed The North East Air Ambulance Service was deployed and reportedly landed on the field at nearby Lynnfield Primary School to assist at the height of the emergency.
At this stage, Cleveland Police have not confirmed whether any arrests have been made, nor have they released any official statement regarding the cause of the fire.
This is a developing story.
We’ll bring you updates as soon as we have them.
