Major Housing Developer Under Fire for Blocking a Popular Hartlepool Footpath which has now been losed to members of the public until further notice....
19th Sep 2025
A developer heavily backed by the Hartlepool Development Corporation is facing mounting criticism, after blocking off a popular public footpath as part of its plans to complete a major housing development.
The footpath, located opposite the new housing development at the Marina, just before the Yacht Club on the promenade, has been closed to the public for around a week.
The walkway, which runs from Newburn Bridge and passes close to Slake Terrace and Ensign Court, has long been popular with local walkers. Residents say its sudden closure has cut off a valued community route.

The land is said to be owned privately by local developers Jomast Ltd, meaning Hartlepool Borough Council has reportedly refused to intervene, despite a number of complaints from locals.
Jomast Ltd, recently secured planning permission for a multi-million-pound redevelopment of the Hartlepool Marina site, an area mothballed since the early 2000s. The scheme includes housing and apartment complexes across at least three nearby sites.
While Jomast reportedly insists the footpath’s closure is only a temporary measure to facilitate construction, many residents are unconvinced, fearing the walkway may never be reopened and could instead be absorbed into the wider redevelopment, permanently cutting off public access.
We have approached Jomast Ltd for a statement regarding the closure & will update the article once a response has been recieved....
