Property in Hartlepool’s Duke Street Closed by Magistrates for Three Months.

Magistrates have granted a closure order on a Hartlepool Property which had plagued the local community with Drug Dealing, Anti Social Behaviour & Criminal Damage.
Teesside Magistrates' Court this week granted a three-month order for 18 Duke Street, Hartlepool, after hearing evidence presented by the Hartlepool Community Safety Team, a multi agency team consisting of Hartlepool Borough Council, local housing providers & Cleveland Police.
The privately-rented Terraced detached property is now subject to a closure order of three months after Magistrates were told numerous reports of Drug Dealing, ASB & Criminal Damage were all linked to the Hartlepool Address.
The court was told that since the tenants moved into the property earlier this year, the tenant and other occupants had been repeatedly allowing criminal and anti-social behaviour to occur at the address.
Police had also previously raised the premises reportedly finding a number of Class A drugs, with visitors arriving at the property throughout both the day and night.
The Closure Order, forms part of the ongoing work being carried out to tackle criminal and anti-social behaviour and protect communities across Hartlepool with the tenant of the property now having to shoulder the councils court costs.
A Closure Order prohibits access to the property by anyone other than those specifically authorised, helping to prevent further nuisance, disorder and criminal activity while safeguarding the wider community. The maximum penalty for breaching an order is six months’ imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine. Anyone who witnesses a breach should contact Cleveland Police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
