Hartlepool Borough Council finally grants approval for the demolition of a set of vandal stricken garages that's plagued local residents for years.

Plans for the demolition of a set of vandal-stricken garages in Hartlepool have finally been approved — after they were mysteriously withdrawn without explanation earlier this year.
HBC Exposed understands Hartlepool Borough Council has now officially stated they have no objections for the demolition of the block of Garages in Hartlepool's Northumberland Walk which has been at the centre of a litany of community complaints for years.
The garages, long abandoned by the Teesside Housing Giant Thirteen Housing Group and falling into considerable disrepair, have reportedly become a hotspot for antisocial behaviour and fly-tipping. Nearby residents — and even local ward councillors — are said to have repeatedly raised concerns over the eyesore, urging action from both the council and Thirteen, the owners of the land. .
As previously reported by HBC Exposed, the garages have remained unused for years, gradually becoming a public nuisance. Thirteen Housing Group had previously submitted plans to knock them down earlier this year, but those plans were suddenly withdrawn, with no clear explanation given to residents.
Now, in a decision notice seen by HBC Exposed, Hartlepool Borough Council has given Thirteen the green light to proceed with the demolition.
The notice states:
“I can confirm that Hartlepool Borough Council has no objections to your proposals and that prior approval of the method of demolition and any proposed restoration of the site is NOT REQUIRED.”
Locals hope the demolition will commence 'soon' !
The approval means Thirteen now has up to five years from the date the application was submitted to carry out the demolition works.
It is currently unclear as to what the long-term plans for the site are, or whether Thirteen intends to develop it further in the future once the sites eventually cleared. However, for now, the move's likely to be welcomed by local's & even ward councillors, who've long called for the site to be cleared and cleaned up, putting to an end years of misery the site has caused to local residents. However the 5 year deadline for the works to be completed has left some worried that Thirteen now has yet more time to 'drag its heels' over the grot spot, with some calling for the works to commence as soon as possible...
