Cleveland Police Make Further Arrests On Sunday Evening After a Pre-Arranged Gathering Outside a Hartlepool Home Ends With Further Disorder.

Police have reportedly made further arrests on Sunday Evening following ongoing enquiries into whats claimed to have been yet another 'gathering' described as a “peaceful protest” which descended into yet more disorder in a Hartlepool Street. .
A 54-year-old man was subsequently arrested in Beaconsfield Street late on Sunday evening, August 30, after police attended what's understood to have been a pre-arranged gathering outside the home of a person accused online of sexual offending.
The Teesside & Durham Post understands that officers connected with both Cleveland Police and Cheshire Constabulary attended the incident with Cheshire Constabulary Officers being present following a further 200 officers being drafted into the region as part of the disorder in Southbank Middlesbrough. Man reportedly involved in organising protests Arrested...
The man arrested at the scene on Sunday Evening in Hartlepool was reportedly arrested Under the Public Order Act on suspicion of arranging or promoting a number of recent protests across Hartlepool connected with an online vigilante group. The group uses social-media platforms to publicise so-called “stings” & "Protests" against people it accuses of sexual offences involving children, with Sunday evening’s gathering reportedly promoted as a protest against an alleged offender returning to his home address. Its also understood that a man arrested at the scene of the 'protest' yesterday evening has a previous conviction relating to dealing in the Class A drugs, where in 2021 the individual narrowly avoided an immediate prison sentence after being sentenced to two years in prison suspended for two years when a police operation tackling the dealing of Heroin in Owton Manor led police to arrest the individual for Possession with intent to Supply Class A Drugs. .
Latest in series of disturbances
Sunday’s incident reportedly follows two earlier gatherings outside Hartlepool properties on Friday, August 28 and Saturday, August 29. During the first incident, a 29-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and racially abused before a bag was stolen from him. He required hospital treatment and remained at the University Hospital of North Tees overnight.
At a second property in West Voew Hartlepool, windows were smashed with bricks and rocks while children were inside. Cleveland Police confirmed that five people had been arrested in connection with those two incidents.
Three men, aged 19, 23 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of offences including robbery, violent disorder and threatening or abusive behaviour. A 19-year-old was additionally arrested on suspicion of possessing a Class B drug.
A 54-year-old man was previously arrested on suspicion of robbery, while a 46-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of obstructing or resisting a constable. All five were released on police bail pending further enquiries. A number of other people were issued with Section 50 requirements in connection with alleged anti-social behaviour.
Online group attracts police attention..
The activities of the social-media group reportedly behind the gatherings are now understood to have attracted significant police attention, with concerns raised about online posts potentially encouraging people to travel to private homes, confront occupants and participate in gatherings which then can rapidly become hostile.
Although the group claims to be protecting children, the scenes witnessed across Hartlepool have included an alleged assault, racial abuse, robbery, threatening behaviour and extensive damage to a number of residential properties, several of them reportedly owned by Teesside Landlord Thirteen Housing Group.
There's also said to be concerns about the effect on innocent neighbours and children who may have no connection whatsoever with the allegations being circulated online, with Police officers finding considerable resources being tied up for considerable periods responding to the gatherings, maintaining a visible presence and attempting to prevent further violence. A move which is reportedly now carrying a considerable cost to the public purse while diverting resources from other crimes and emergencies across the town.
Police promise robust action
Superintendent Paul Richardson previously said Cleveland Police would facilitate peaceful and lawful protest but would deal “appropriately and robustly” with any escalation into violence or criminality.
He warned that police would not tolerate groups targeting individuals, causing harm or destroying property.
Following the first five arrests, he said the force would continue taking action against anyone suspected of causing disorder or committing violence within local communities.
