Hartlepool Development Corporation Approves New Industrial Scheme Promising Jobs

Plans to breathe new life into a long-underused industrial site in Hartlepool have now been formally approved, paving the way for new business space and the hopes of new jobs in the pipeline.
The scheme, which was previously reported by the Teesside & Durham Post last month for the Oakesway Industrial Estate, has now received the green light from the Hartlepool Development Corporation (HDC), with the plans marking the latest step in efforts to regenerate derelict land and attract new employers to the town.
The development will see three new industrial buildings constructed on a brownfield plot, providing space for up to 10 separate business units. The units are expected to be aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises looking for modern industrial or light-manufacturing premises.
Reviving a Long-Underused Site

Oakesway Industrial Estate, has long contained areas of vacant land and under-used plots dating back to its creation in the 1950s. While some successful firms still operate there, its claimed large sections have remained undeveloped or abandoned for years.The newly approved scheme aims to transform part of the land into modern business accommodation, helping to bring activity back to the estate and supporting the wider regeneration ambitions for Hartlepool.
Developers behind the project say the new buildings will provide flexible space suitable for a range of businesses, potentially encouraging investment and supporting local employment.
Backed by the Development Corporation
The decision by the Hartlepool Development Corporation is significant because the body was created to accelerate regeneration and investment across key sites in the town, including Oakesway Industrial Estate which has already seen businesses already established in the area undergo significant expansion. The corporation has been given planning powers over designated zones to help unlock development on land that has previously struggled to attract investment. Supporters say projects like this could help address the shortage of modern industrial units in the town and allow growing businesses to remain in Hartlepool rather than relocating elsewhere in the region..
Potential Jobs Boost
While the number of jobs created will ultimately depend on the businesses that move into the units, the development's been described as a potential boost for the local economy, with several firms expected to operate from the site once construction is complete.
