A Hartlepool Business has been slapped with fines totalling £120k, after being found to have been hiring illegal workers.

Dash & Go Ltd, Trading as "Splash & Dash" at Mainsforth Terrace Hartlepool received one of the largest fines in the latest round of businesses to be found to be hiring illegal workers in a recent clampdown.

Its claimed 15 other businesses across the North East each were hit with significant fines in information recently published by the Home Office.

Businesses hiring illegal workers can face unlimited fines or up to five years in prison if they are found to have hired people who do not have the legal right to work in the UK, the Home Office says.

It includes situations where a worker’s visa has expired, they are not allowed to do certain types of work, or where employers have failed to check documents properly.
