Hartlepool Labour MP Jonathan Brash has today announced that he's formally endorsed his support for Bridget Phillipson the Labour MP for Houghton & Sunderland South to become the next deputy leader of the Labour Party following the sacking of Angela Rayner in a Tax Avoidance Scandal.


Mr Brash made the announcement on X (Formally Twitter) earlier today, where Mr Brash stated :


"I’ve nominated my fellow North East MP Bridget Phillipson for Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. She’s delivering lower uniform costs, free primary breakfast clubs, more free childcare, academy oversight and capped social care profits".


"She backs Hartlepool, I’m backing her."


Ms Phillipson is now widely expected to be the frontrunner for the Labour Deputy Leadership Contest where on social media, Ms Phillipson added :


"This morning I have written to the General Secretary of the Labour Party to accept nomination as a candidate for Deputy Leader."


"It’s time to unite our party and smash Reform."
