Claims which were made against the now Ex-Tory PCC Steve Turner Said to be Raising Serious Questions Over an MP's Conduct Before Labour Victory in the Police & Crime Commissioner Elections in 2024

10th May 2025

A public petition has been launched demanding a full and independent investigation into two senior Labour Party Figures, following allegations of misconduct in a public office, political manipulation, and abuse of power involving Cleveland Police.

A Three-Year Cover-Up? Public Misled Over Sexual Allegation

For over three years, its clamed the public were 'misled' about a serious sexual allegation lodged against the then Conservative Police & Crime Commissioner for Teesside Steve Turner.

According to the petition, the allegation was said to have been made without a verified victim, without a formal complaint, and without any transparency about who was really behind it. It's now emerged through a series of investigations that Labour MP Andy McDonald MP who represents Middlesbrough and Thornaby East was reportedly the original source, and that Matt Storey, the current Labour Police & Crime Commissioner for Teesside then went on to benefit politically from the allegations by then taking Turner's job.

Despite Avon & Somerset Police confirming that no complainant could be identified, the damage was said to have been done — with Turner’s name and reputation smeared across the press, where in 2024, Turner was then defeated by Labours Matt Storey in the PCC election.

Political Meddling Hidden From Public View

Its claimed both Matt Storey, the current Labour PCC & Labours Andy McDonald were in regular email communication with each other over the allegations

Its said that what the public weren't told, is that emails and communications between Storey and McDonald — now believed to be central to the possible Misconduct case — were in fact withheld under legal protection, hidden not to protect any victim, but allegedly to shield political figures from scrutiny.

Even worse, its claimed Cleveland Police granted Labours MP for Middlesbrough McDonald anonymity, hiding his role from the press, investigators, and any oversight bodies, such as the IOPC. This gave the false impression that a vulnerable victim needed protection, when in fact it was a Labour MP pulling the strings from behind the scenes.

Storey's Now Accused of Obstructing Accountability

Since becoming PCC for Teesside, its claimed Matt Storey has used his office to block any further investigation into the incident. He's reportedly defended these claims saying that he'd tried to get a complainant to come forward — despite the fact that Avon & Somerset Police concluded no such person existed. Storey’s statements have not been independently verified, and his role in the original smear campaign has reportedly not been investigated.

Cleveland Police were however said to have accepted Storey's version of events without challenge, even though it was established Storey had a clear conflict of interest, with Labours Andy McDonald subsequently then 'backing him up' — again with no evidence either man had ever spoken to any victim — helping to shut down all further scrutiny.

A Dangerous Precedent for British Democracy

The move by at least two senior Labour Party figures to apparently embark on a carefully orchestrated smear campaign against a then elected PCC is said to be more than just a local scandal. It’s now being compared by campaigners to the catastrophic failures of 'Operation Midland' and the false allegations which were made against Lord Bramall, a former D-day veteran and former chief of defence staff who was implicated in an alleged sexual abuse scandal, where reputations were ruined by politically motivated claims.

The petitions organiser Andrea Turner warns that if this case is left un-investigated, it will set a chilling precedent: that politicians can fabricate serious allegations, whilst hiding behind legal protections, and use the justice system to destroy opponents — all without consequence.

Reported 'settlement' with the Mirror Newspaper

The Mirror newspaper, one of the newspapers which reportedly publicised a number of the false claims against Mr Turner is also said to be coming under fire. Where its claimed the Mirror published the original allegations made against Steve Turner — claims now admitted by the newspaper to have been based on unverified information supplied by political opponents, with Turner reported to have reached a legal settlement with the Mirror for an undisclosed sum, effectively confirming the story which was published by the largely left wing extremist newspaper as baseless.

Despite overwhelming evidence of serious wrongdoing, its claimed the Labour Party has so far refused to launch any internal disciplinary investigations into either Andy McDonald or Matt Storey, with the petition closing with a stark warning :

“No politician, no police officer, and no public body has the right to weaponise legal powers for political gain. Democracy demands truth, transparency, and accountability. The public will accept nothing less.”

Leaving much to the imagination as to just how far Labour's Extremists will go to hold onto power, not just on Teesside, but in Westminster....
