The plans to change the use of the Grade II listed Property into a residential care home will be decided by town planning officials in the new year.

Plans have been submitted to Hartlepool Borough Council seeking permission to transform a former guest house in Seaton Carew into a residential care home.

The application, submitted by Resicare Alliance, proposes to convert the Grade II listed building, formally known as Altonlea Lodge Guest House into a care home, alongside the installation of a freestanding cycle store in the rear garden.

According to the planning statement, its claimed no internal or external alterations are proposed to either the main building or its separate annexe. Because of this, and given that the cycle store would be a standalone structure within the grounds, listed building consent is not required.

Altonlea Lodge had previously operated as a 14-bed family-run guest house since the 1970s, before closing its doors just over a year ago. The business struggled in recent years due to market changes and the growing dominance of online accommodation platforms such as Airbnb and Booking.com. The property has since remained vacant and on the market for almost a year.

If approved, its claimed the plans would bring the long-standing Seaton Carew property back into active use...

A decision on the application is expected in spring 2026,
