Iceland Foods is said to be making big plans to expand in Hartlepool, with proposals submitted to Hartlepool Borough Council allowing the firm to relocate to a much larger unit at Teesbay Retail Park.

Planning applications have been lodged for the frozen food giant to take over the former Carpetright store, where its claimed works are already underway to transform the retail space into one of its popular Iceland Food Warehouse outlets.
The Food Warehouse format, first launched in 2014, offers stores around three times the size of a standard Iceland branch, typically based on retail parks.
The concept has reportedly proven to be successful nationwide, prompting Iceland to seek out a further 250 new sites – more than double its existing 200 stores – with property advisors Mason Partners LLP said to be leading the search.
To meet its expansion goals, its claimed Iceland Foods is targeting units with a minimum footprint of 10,000 sq ft across retail parks in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
For Hartlepool, the move could bring a bigger, more modern store ,as well as an increased customer choice at an already thriving retail destination.
Plans submitted to Hartlepool Borough Council also include internal refurbishments of the former Carpetright unit as well as new signage....
