An Absorbing Drama:

How a Debate on Tampons This Weekend Turned into a Twitter Tantrum for Labour MP Jonathan Brash .

12th October 2025

Labour MP for Hartlepool Jonathan Brash yesterday caused yet another stir on Social Media, after accusing the Reform MP for Clacton Nigel Farage of being "an idiot", a move which sparked a huge backlash on social media...

It comes after its claimed The National Trust sparked widespread disgust from members of the public this week by reportedly installing vegan tampons in the men's toilets at Sizergh Castle in the Lake District. The decision, supposedly aimed at inclusivity for transgender visitors, has drawn sharp criticism from conservative figures and ignited a heated exchange between MPs on social media. The story gained even more traction when Reform UK leader and Clacton MP Nigel Farage posted on X (formerly Twitter) on October 10, 2025: "The National Trust has put vegan tampons in men’s toilets. God help us."

Labour MP Jonathan Brash's response sparked a huge backlash on social media.

Farage's post quickly went viral, amassing over 25,000 likes and nearly 4,000 replies within days, with many users expressing outrage & mockery at what they perceived as "woke" overreach.

Reports indicate the tampons were placed in a dispenser in the men's facilities at the historic site, leaving some visitors, including a 79-year-old man, confused and questioning if they had entered the wrong toilets.

The National Trust however defended the move, claiming it was part of their commitment to accessibility and sustainability, with the products being eco-friendly and suitable for all who might need them. However, critics argue it exemplifies unnecessary virtue-signaling, with Farage's three-word fury—"God help us"—resonating among those frustrated with whats seen by many to be 'extremist' progressive policies infiltrating traditional institutions.

The controversy then escalated even further, when Labour MP for Hartlepool, Jonathan Brash, responded directly to Farage's post with a blunt quote in response to the Clacton MP saying: "You’re an idiot." Brash's retort, posted shortly after Farage's, has since garnered over 6,000 likes but also provoked a fierce backlash online as well as from those within his own constituency of Hartlepool. .

Labour MP's 'Immaturity' Beginning to Surface !

Social media users flooded Brash's replies with accusations of immaturity, with one top response from journalist Isabel Oakeshott predicting, "2029: you’re soon to be an ex MP." Others referenced Brash's previous vote against a national inquiry into grooming gangs, questioning his priorities and labeling him a "threat to the safety of children."

The angry responses continued to pour in over the weekend, with users demanding explanations for tampons in men's facilities and mocking Brash's terse insult.

One reply stated, "Why didn’t you vote for a national inquiry into the rape gangs? You’re an idiot," accompanied by an image highlighting Labour MPs' voting record.

Another user quipped, "What use would a man have for a tampon, vegan or otherwise Jonathan? Do tell."

Quotes of Brash's post amplified the backlash, with one quote reading,

"Jonathan Brash is a Labour MP and former teacher. You’d be right to be disappointed that there are people like him legislating for our country... who are so intellectually challenged and rude."

Others tied it to broader political frustrations, with Reform UK supporters predicting electoral consequences for Labour in 2029, particularly in constituencies such as Hartlepool, which have seen significant Reform gains in recent months. The incident is also said to be highlighting the deepening divide in UK politics over social issues, where even sanitary products become battlegrounds.

As one user summed it up in a quote:

"Someone please turn Britain on and off again please…"

With the story being covered by outlets such as the Daily Express, GB News, and The Telegraph, it's clear that "tampon-gate" has tapped into larger anxieties about dangerous cultural shifts in Britain & the consequences of appeasing those with ideologies which are linked to mental illnesses.

Whether the scandal fades as a quirky anecdote or fuels further debate remains to be seen, however for Labour MP Mr Brash, it seems its yet another example of the Labour MP 'failing to read the room' & locals getting increasingly agitated over his bid to bash Reform UK at every possible opportunity, with some labelling it as an 'obsession gone too far'....
